Prepare for New Jersey Real Estate Licensing and Professional Development.

Bergen Community College offers New Jersey Real Estate Commission (NJREC)-approved salesperson prelicensing education and noncredit professional development courses for individuals interested in real estate sales, property management, and property investment.

Whether you are preparing for a New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson License, exploring a career in property operations, or learning to evaluate real estate investment opportunities, Bergen offers practical training for both new and experienced learners.

Before enrolling: The 75-hour Real Estate Salesperson Licensing course meets New Jersey’s prelicensing education requirement, but completing it does not automatically grant a state license. Candidates must also satisfy NJREC eligibility requirements, pass the state examination, complete fingerprinting, and obtain sponsorship from a licensed employing broker. The Property Management and Property Flipping courses are separate, non-licensing professional development offerings. Review the NJREC Licensing Requirements before beginning the salesperson licensing process.

Certificates and Program Pathways

Real Estate Salesperson Licensing

Real Estate Salesperson Licensing (CD-107): A 75-hour NJREC-approved prelicensing course covering the legal, ethical, financial, and practical foundations of real estate transactions. Successful course completion fulfills the required prelicensing education component for candidates seeking a New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson License.

Candidates must pass the state examination administered by PSI Services LLC, complete fingerprinting and the license application process, and secure sponsorship through a New Jersey licensed employing broker. Both the examination and the completed license application must occur within one year of finishing the prelicensing course.

Property Management

Real Estate Property Management (CD-027): A 45-hour course introducing residential and commercial property operations, leasing, tenant relations, maintenance coordination, budgeting, and regulatory responsibilities. This course may be taken on its own and does not award a New Jersey real estate license.

Real Estate Investment

Real Estate Property Flipping (CD-213): A 24-hour course exploring how to assess property investment opportunities, estimate renovation expenses, evaluate financing and risk, and plan resale strategies. This course may be taken independently and does not award a professional real estate license or investment certification.

Course selection: The three courses are separate offerings, not a single three-course certificate. Students may select the training that fits their interests. CD-107 is required for the standard New Jersey salesperson prelicensing education pathway; CD-027 and CD-213 do not replace any part of that requirement.

Real Estate Salesperson Licensing

Real Estate Salesperson Licensing (CD-107)

This NJREC-approved course provides the 75 hours of prelicensing education required for individuals pursuing a New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson License. Students study property ownership and interests, agency relationships, fiduciary duties, contracts and disclosures, real estate financing, mortgages, fair housing, ethics, and New Jersey real estate laws and regulations. The course prepares students to take the New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson Licensing Examination and understand the responsibilities of licensed real estate professionals.

Licensing pathway: New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson. Successfully completing the course satisfies the educational component only; candidates must meet the remaining NJREC requirements and receive state approval before conducting licensed real estate activity.

75 instructional hours | Prerequisite: No prior real estate experience required. NJREC salesperson license applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent; review the course listing for enrollment and delivery requirements.

Property Management

Real Estate Property Management (CD-027)

This course introduces the day-to-day responsibilities of managing residential and commercial properties. Students explore leasing and lease administration, tenant relations, maintenance and vendor coordination, operating budgets, property income and expenses, legal and regulatory considerations, and strategies for effective property operations. The course provides foundational knowledge for those exploring property management, leasing support, and real estate operations.

Credential pathway: Bergen Community College Certificate of Completion. This is a noncredit professional development course, not a state real estate licensing course. Certain property management or leasing activities may independently require a real estate license under New Jersey law.

45 instructional hours | Prerequisite: No prior property management experience required. A high school diploma or equivalent and basic computer skills are recommended.

Real Estate Investment

Real Estate Property Flipping (CD-213)

This course introduces the principles of purchasing, improving, and reselling property as an investment strategy. Students learn to evaluate market trends, estimate property values and renovation expenses, explore financing options, analyze potential returns, manage project risks, and develop renovation and resale plans. Practical exercises emphasize informed financial decision-making rather than guaranteed investment outcomes.

Credential pathway: Bergen Community College Certificate of Completion. This course develops investment knowledge but does not confer a professional real estate license, third-party credential, or authority to perform activities requiring licensure.

24 instructional hours | Prerequisite: No prior property investment experience required. Basic math and financial literacy skills are recommended.

Enrollment and Eligibility

Before registering:

  • Identify your goal. Choose CD-107 if you intend to pursue a New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson License. Choose CD-027 or CD-213 for standalone property management or investment education.
  • Verify salesperson licensing eligibility. New Jersey applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, complete approved prelicensing education, pass the examination, and satisfy NJREC’s character and background requirements.
  • Review your course listing. Confirm current dates, tuition, delivery format, materials, and registration availability on the individual course page.
  • Plan for external steps and costs. State examination, fingerprinting, and licensing fees are separate from Bergen’s salesperson course tuition unless expressly indicated otherwise.
  • Register for your selected course. If no section is available, use the course page to request information about a future offering.

Important: The minimum age and high school requirements described above are NJREC salesperson licensing requirements; they should not be interpreted as blanket prerequisites for Bergen’s separate Property Management or Property Flipping courses.

Certification and Credential Information

New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson Licensing

After successfully completing CD-107, candidates must pass the licensing examination administered by PSI Services LLC, complete the required fingerprinting/background check, and submit a completed license application through a sponsoring New Jersey licensed employing broker. The NJREC must approve the application before the candidate may begin performing licensed real estate activity.

One-year deadline: New Jersey requires candidates to pass the examination and submit the completed license application within one year of completing prelicensing education. Candidates should arrange fingerprinting promptly after passing the examination and allow sufficient time for licensing paperwork.

Bergen Certificates of Completion

Students who successfully complete the Real Estate Property Management (CD-027) or Real Estate Property Flipping (CD-213) courses receive a Bergen Community College Certificate of Completion. These noncredit course certificates are distinct from state-issued real estate licenses.

Real Estate License Continuing Education

For most active New Jersey real estate licensees, the NJREC requires 12 approved continuing education credit hours each two-year licensing term, subject to exemptions and license-type rules. Current required subjects include fair housing/New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, agency, ethics, and additional approved core or elective topics. Bergen’s courses on this page should not be assumed to satisfy NJREC license-renewal CE requirements unless an individual offering explicitly identifies approved CE credit.

NJ DCA Tuition Reimbursement

Eligible students may qualify for tuition reimbursement associated with approved UCC coursework, subject to DCA rules, current eligibility, documentation and processing requirements. Reimbursement is not automatic and should not be assumed when registering.

Bergen’s current instructions direct students to email reimbursement paperwork rather than mail it. Submit required documents to Genevieve Montana-Khalil at [email protected]. For eligibility and reimbursement questions, contact the NJ DCA Licensing Unit at (609) 984-7834. Confirm current forms, completion-date restrictions and requirements before submitting a request.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does completing Bergen’s 75-hour course give me a real estate license?

No. Completing CD-107 satisfies the education requirement for the New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson License. Applicants must also pass the state examination, complete fingerprinting and background screening, obtain sponsorship from a licensed employing broker, and receive NJREC approval.

What are the basic requirements for a New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson License?

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, complete an approved 75-hour prelicensing course, pass the state examination, and meet the NJREC’s other licensing requirements.

How long do I have after finishing the salesperson course?

You must pass the licensing exam and submit your completed license application within one year of completing the prelicensing course. The one-year period does not begin when you pass the exam.

Do I need to find a sponsoring broker?

Yes. After passing the examination, applicants must pursue initial licensing through a New Jersey licensed employing broker. The NJREC must approve the application before licensed real estate work may begin.

Can I take Property Management or Property Flipping without the Salesperson course?

Yes. CD-027 and CD-213 are independent professional development courses. Neither substitutes for the 75-hour salesperson prelicensing education requirement.

Does the Property Management course qualify me for a state license?

No. CD-027 provides noncredit training and a Bergen Certificate of Completion. New Jersey licensing requirements may still apply to particular real estate brokerage or leasing activities performed for others.

Does Property Flipping guarantee investment returns or include a professional certification?

No. CD-213 teaches methods for evaluating potential opportunities, renovation costs, financing, and risk. Investment outcomes are not guaranteed, and the course does not award a separate professional certification.

Are there in-person and online classes?

Bergen lists in-person, live online, and hybrid options for these courses. Available formats depend on the particular section; check the course pages for current offerings.

Are NJREC continuing education credits included in these courses?

Do not assume so. State license-renewal CE credit requires an appropriately approved course and provider. Check the individual listing for an explicit NJREC continuing education designation.

Where can I find class dates, tuition, and registration details?
