A Week of Battles with Chef it up 2 Go Grades 1 - 5 | KT-045

Every day of the week we will have a different themed battle such as Cupcake Battle, Spot On Battle, Chopped and more. We will break the groups into teams and explain the rules of the day to battle it out! Our Chef It Up leaders may make things more interesting by taking away a much-needed utensil or adding an extra ingredient… you won’t know what to expect! Peanut and Tree Nut Free. 

A.I. Adventures-Intro to Machine Learning | Grades 3-6

Explore the world of artificial intelligence to design fully interactive games and experiences using cutting-edge technology. This program combines artificial intelligence with coding to create an unforgettable learning adventure. Students will construct machine learning models that use image and text recognition within block-based coding software to build a portfolio of projects. Student-created projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Acting Workshop Ages 11-17

Learn and explore the many aspects of acting, including; improvisation, scene study, character development, monologue study and set design. This class will be taught online with a live instructor.

Acting Workshop Grades 8 - 12

Acting Workshop Grades 8 – 12 runs from 9AM – 12PM

This class explores many aspects of acting, including: ensemble-building theater games, improvisation, scene study, character development, audition techniques, monologue study, set design and costume design. Students should be prepared to actively participate. The week ends with a live, short production — students will showcase their new skills!

Advanced Baking

Advanced Excel 2016

This course is designed for users who want to explore Excel’s table feature and database capabilities.You will learn to create and manage tables, and use the sort and filter commands. Use the Data commands to import, extract, group, and subtotal your spreadsheet data. Create sparklines,charts, pivot tables and pivot charts. Create simple macros.

After Care

After Care runs from 4PM – 5:30PM

At the end of your child’s daily program, your child may remain on the BCC campus to participate in supervised activities until 5:30 p.m. Your child may enroll in any or all of the weeks during which your child is attending a program. Participants are not permitted to stay on campus following the end of their regularly scheduled day without authorized supervision. A LATE FEE of $50/hour will be charged if the child is not picked up by 5:30 pm.

Amazing Animals | Grades 1-5

It’s a zoo in here!  This class is sure to delight kids who love creatures.  We’ll be building models of snakes, insects, mammals and more. Each day we’ll discuss fascinating facts about the animals we build, from the chameleon that changes colors to the seal model that waddles across the table. Students will love these moving models that celebrate the wonders of the animal kingdom. 

Amazing College Essays Grades 9 - 12 | KT-074

This course focuses on equipping students with the essential skills needed to craft compelling and effective college-level essays. Through in-depth exploration of essay structures, research methodologies, and critical writing techniques, participants learn to articulate their ideas with clarity and depth. By receiving guidance on thesis development, argumentation, and refinement of writing style, students gain confidence in their ability to produce impactful essays tailored for college applications and academic pursuits. 

Architecture & Engineering | Grades 2-6

This in-person course will be held in Ender Hall at Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus NJ 07652

In this workshop, you’ll design a wide range of gadgets, and inventive machines.  Projects include: The Great Tower Challenge, Balsa Wood Bridge Engineering, and Structural Engineering Challenge, We’ll learn how to draw in scale and do Scratch coding challenges along with a host of other fun contests designed to bring out the engineer in you!  Also, Get ready for a “magical” laboratory experience Harry Potter-style as you mix chemicals to form Flubber, atomic worm polymers, Silly Putty, Super Hi- Bounce balls and much more! We’ll even make tye-dye shirts! All students will take home a mini- chemistry kit & recipe booklet. Please bring a 100% white cotton T- shirt to the second class. (For 3rd-5th grade students)

Architecture 101 | Grades 1-5

If you’ve ever gazed up at a skyscraper and wondered how these towering structures stay upright or driven across a bridge and marveled at the engineering required to hold the weight of so many vehicles, or asked yourself “why does the Leaning Tower of Pisa lean?” then you’ll love this class. We’ll explore the architecture and engineering fundamentals behind some well- known structures such as Dubai’s Burj Khalifa tower and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. Put your building skills to the test as we transform common LEGO® Bricks into architectural wonders. Maybe you’ll be inspired to design your own amazing buildings! 

Architecture and Engineering Challenges | Grades 5-8

Week 2: Grades 2 – 6; Week 3: Grades 5 – 8; Week 5: Grades 2 – 6; Week 6: Grades 5 – 8 runs 1PM – 4PM  

Architecture and engineering are the focus of this program. You will work to design and build towers, balsa bridges and a wide array of Lego and K’nex™ architecture projects. Have fun building famous architectural designs from around the world including Adam Tucker Reed’s famous brick structures including the Empire State Building, Imperial Hotel, Whitehouse, Flat Iron Building, Seattle Space Needle, and more. You will also build bridges, towers, and other structures using a variety of materials, and learn about structural engineering principles and forces that act on structures. Develop science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills in a fun, hands-on environment.

Art Style Painting | Grades 5-8

In this course students will learn about modern art styles; impressionism, expressionism, cubism, futurism, surrealism and will create their own art work in these Art Style using their ideas, imagination, memory and experience. This class is taught virtually with a live instructor.

Art Style Painting Grades 4 - 8 | KT-359

Come explore the techniques used to create paintings in such art styles as surrealism, impressionism, pointillism, cubism, and pot-art. Learn different ways of finding ideas for your paintings, and then use those ideas to create your masterpieces using acrylic paint on canvas. 

Artisan Bread Making

Artisan Bread Making runs from 1PM – 4PM

Grades 5 – 8 runs in Week 2 and Grades 3 – 5 runs in Week 5

Summer Chefs will learn the art of making various types of breads in this culinary workshop.  Experience the art and science behind combining specific recipe ingredients to make delicious bread from scratch! Students will apply math and engineering, as they mix and measure & assemble and create their breads. Kitchen health and safety practices will be introduced during the first class, and practiced throughout.   

Artisian Pizza & Flatbreads

This in-person course will be held at: Patisserie Florentine, 242 Closter Dock Rd, Closter, NJ 07624

Create your own pizza from scratch!  Students will learn how to mix, ferment, fold, and shape pizza dough as well as how to prepare toppings, plus the secrets of amazing pizza sauce. You will bake Neopolitan, Roman, NYC and Detroit-style pizzas in the 600 F oven (safety first!).  We’ll discuss different types of flour and flour applications. Organic, non-bleached flour will be used.  Kitchen health and safety practices will be introduced during the first class, and practiced throughout.  (For 3rd-5th grade students)

Arts and Crafts Grades 4 - 7

Arts and Crafts Grades 4 – 7 runs from 9AM – 4PM

A fun class to learn about various craft projects using simple supplies you may already have at home. We will explore essential inexpensive tools every crafter should have in their craft box. In addition, we will look at how dollar store crafts supplies can make crafting so much fun and how to be willing to take a chance and try new things with just using your imagination.

Arts, Crafts and 3D Design | Grades 1-6

Have fun making and creating as we explore a wide variety of arts and craft projects that will bring out the artist in you and put the “A” for Art in our STEAM camps! Projects include sand art, friendship bracelets, painting, making a rain stick, 3D pens, CD spinners, mosaic Sun crafts, and even an introduction to CAD drawing and 3-D printing on our Makerbot 3D printer. Most projects can be taken home!

Babysitting Basics with CPR Grades 6 - 8 | KT-615

Offered on Week 4, Friday 7/26 and Week 6, Friday 8/9

Babysitting Training is provided by the American Red Cross and is designed for young people to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care to infants and children in a residential setting. Students learn about basic child- care and basic first aid. Participants receive a certificate of completion. The class runs for one day only on Friday 7/26 and Friday 8/9 from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

Baking BCC: Breads, Cookies and Cupcakes

This course is a study of the basic theory of baking and proper tool and equipment use. Hands-on baking in a laboratory setting includes the production of dough, quick breads, pies, cakes, cookies, tarts or fundamental items made in a pastry shop or bakery. Demonstration and practice of various cooking methods while adhering to safe sanitary food handling procedures.

Basic Digital Photography (Grades 6-8)

Basic Digital Photography runs from 9AM – 12PM

Camera phones and digital photography are truly part of our daily lives. This course  teaches the fundamentals for making better digital images. Learn the basics of  composition and personal expression using creative settings with photo apps and more.  Work with your phone camera or a digital camera to learn to make good photographs— seeing the subject, framing the shot, portrait photography, stopping motion or blurring  action using apertures and shutter speeds. Get more from a digital camera or learn  about advanced camera phone app. Using the campus to capture imagery, the class will  focus on specific challenges, group discussions, and make prints of some of the images  we capture. A camera phone or a digital camera is required for this class.

Beginner Guitar | Grades 6-9

2-week course

This introductory course covers all the basics that a beginning guitar player needs to get started. Students will develop playing skills such as picking and strumming and learn scales and chords in the context of the songs they enjoy. Some elementary music theory will be introduced, as well as some of the terms that guitar players need to know. Students must bring their own guitars to class.

Beginner Snare Drum (Grades 5-8)

Beginner Snare Drum runs from 1PM – 4PM

For the absolute beginner!  This course teaches students how to properly hold drum sticks, how to read percussion music, and learn how to read different time signatures. Students will need 1 pair of standard drum sticks, a practice pad and a folder for music. OPTIONAL: If you would like to rent a snare drum, you may; but it is not required. 

Beginning Sewing | Grades 6-9

You will learn the basic building blocks of sewing and get inspired to follow your creativity. Learn how to use stitches to create hand sewn projects, how to add buttons, and other materials to decorate our projects. Another technique we will learn is how to create a no-sew project. The instructor will meet you at the fabric store with a parent the second day to help you select materials for your no-sew project and give you a tour of their fabric department. (Details will be given on the first day of class.) Learn the fundamentals of sewing in a fun and creative way!

Budding bookmakers: here’s a great course to get started!  Let’s print up some collage paper using our Gelli Arts® gelli plates. Gelli plates make it incredibly easy to create prints with paint, stamps and more. Use stencils and found objects to make patterns and layers. We’ll use our newly made papers to create 2 kinds of books: A concertina and a winged book. We’ll also talk about the many career options in the creative arts, including some we never hear about! (For 9th-12th grade students)

We will use the Bergen Community campus and fellow students to capture imagery. We will work with Adobe Lightroom to crop and adjust exposures, learn from each other through group discussions, and make prints of our images. This hands-on course will feature formulas of popular treats such as milk chocolate truffles, bonbons, fruit bars and lollipops.  Students will learn how to prepare an extraordinary array of candies completely from scratch! Kitchen health and safety practices will be introduced during the first class, and practiced throughout. (For 3rd-5th grade students)

Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation Course

A 30-hour course provides essential skills for identifying primary cardiac arrhythmias. It emphasizes a step-by-step approach to rhythm strip analysis. Hybrid schedule: Wed. in-person and Th. Online. EKG Cert. required

Chocolate Bonbons

All about chocolate! Students will understand its properties and explore the art of this ever-popular material. Explore a world of laminated doughs! Using our real commercial dough sheeters (safety first!) students will mix, laminate, shape and fill. Among croissants, students will also prepare cinnamon rolls, cheese danishes and bi-color chocolatines. Organic, non-bleached flour, European 83% butter and other high quality ingredients will be used. Kitchen health and safety practices will be introduced during the first class, and practiced throughout. (For 3rd-5th grade students)

Cross Cultural Psychology

Students of all ages, who are proficient in Korean language, can take this psychology class. Dr. Mi Na Ahn will discuss how culture impacts people’s mind and behavior. Reading materials will be provided. Textbook is optional.

CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) (Grades 3-6)

Become a Super Science Sleuth! Learn about forensics, crime scene investigations, and crime lab chemistry as you perform experiments designed to show you just how those tricky cases are solved. Search for evidence, gather clues, and discover how science can help solve a mystery! Dust for and classify fingerprints, analyze hand writing, test for blood type and DNA using simulated blood, and use “Glow Blood” to see where humans can’t see. Examine hair and clothing fibers, practice chemistry to identify mystery substances, and much more. All students will receive a crime lab kit & mini microscope.

Do you have a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera that you want to learn more about? Do you only use the “P-program setting” and wonder what all the other settings do? Learn how to use these cameras in a variety of modes—including Aperture, Shutter speed and the manual settings. Go further with Manual setting and learn to make more creative images—such as stop motion, blur backgrounds, portrait Bokeh effects and more. Inventing means curiosity, practicality, necessity, and imagining the future! Join us in our Eureka Camp as we step into outer space by launching self-built stomp rockets. Children will witness a volcanic eruption, and learn how magnets can help search for shipwrecks. They will work together to design & build bridges and boats to eventually escape an island and find their way home! Children will even have the chance to launch projectiles with catapults and a large trebuchet!

Excel I

This class will introduce students to the basics including creating spreadsheets, formulas, functions, text, formatting & graphics. Students will be able to perform basic (introductory) level Excel skills such as modifying an existing worksheet, building worksheets, copying & moving cells, etc.

Excel II

This class will reinforce the elements introduced in Excel Level I and expand upon that base to include more complex but necessary activities. Upon completion, students will be able to find a specific entry in a worksheet, paste a dialog box, format cells in a dialog box, use absolute cell references, use financial functions (i.e. PMT function), use logical functions (i.e. IF function, nesting IF functions), use date/time functions (i.e. DATE/NOW function), create/modify charts, sort/filter records, link worksheets.

Excel III - Advanced Data Analysis

This is a 4-hour, web-based class taught using WebEx and a live instructor. If you perform any of the following tasks, this class is a must: accounting/budgeting, data analysis, forecasting or collection/verification of business data.

This class explores the advanced features of Excel 365/2019/2016 and will teach attendees how to: automate worksheet functionality, analyze data, work with multiple workbooks, explore data and import/export XML data. Exploring the Everglades | Grades 1-5

Build an alligator with a mouth that opens and closes, an airboat to speed across the water, a bird with wings that flap up and down and imagine yourself on a journey through the Florida Everglades. This unique and fragile ecosystem is the only subtropical preserve in North America, and students will hear what makes it such a special place. On our Bricks 4 Kidz® “tour” of the Everglades you get to learn so much, without all the mosquito bites! You’ll even learn why mosquitos are actually “V.I.P.s “(very important pests). Shrink yourself down to mini- figure size and climb aboard our LEGO® airboat tour through the Florida Everglades! We’ll build and learn about some of the cool creatures in one of our country’s largest national parks.

Fiesta Fun! Grades 1 - 5

Fiesta Fun Grades 1 – 5 runs from 9AM – 12PM

Come join us in a week trip to México! You will learn fun facts about this Spanish speaking country, its culture, geography and cuisine. Learn about the materials needed to make a piñata, the step-by-step process and get hands on experience by making your own! During class, we will also make yummy dishes including tacos, wraps, and simple tasty desserts. On Friday, we will end our journey with a Fun Fiesta! Please note some recipes might require using products processed in a facility that handles nuts.

Generation Pound! A Drum and Fitness Class | Grades 3-6

Get ready to MOVE, ROCK, PLAY, and MAKE NOISE! What does a Generation POUND class look & feel like?  This class combines movement and music to improve focus, coordination, physical fitness and teamwork skills.  By combining exercise and interactive activities to help build confidence, you will learn new ways to explore movement, embrace your creativity and ROCK OUT! This class will be broken up into half of fun and fitness with drumming and the other half to learn basic drumming rhythms.  Please have a yoga mat, sneakers, comfortable clothing, a snack and plenty of water!

Geometry Honors New Work for Credit | SHS

The core of the Geometry Honors course is traditional Euclidean plane geometry enriched by the addition of space geometry. Plane and spatial relationships studied in earlier grades are further developed as part of a mathematical system. This is accomplished through the application of inductive and deductive reasoning to undefined terms, postulates and previously proven theorems. Various forms of proof are emphasized. Algebraic skills are further developed by their application within the context of geometry. Miss Manners might not approve but your child definitely will! Gross out camp is a week of learning about our gross bodily functions. Burping, boogers, excrement, gas, saliva, germs and how our brain, cells, heart, organs and blood contribute to this. Make exploding "toothpaste", edible excrement and handmade ice cream. This class is about fun! We use theatre games and physical exercises to teach kids the basics of improvisation. This course is a study of the basic theory of baking and proper tool and equipment use. Introduction to Music Production (Grades 8-12)

A beginner-level course for anyone interested in producing music (making beats). The goal of the course will be to help students understand the fundamentals of music production and to provide a mentorship for those getting started or interested in the music industry.

Junior Chef Battle of the Week (Grades 2-8)

Junior Chef Battle of the Week runs from 9AM – 12PM

Each class we will be a different themed battle such as cupcakes, food art, just desserts, etc… then under the careful supervision and enthusiasm of the CHEF IT UP staff we will break the kids into different teams and explain the rules for that battle. To add to the suspense, we keep the ingredients a secret until they are ready to battle it out! They will have a certain time frame to complete their battle with their teammates it will be so much fun! We might take away a much needed utensil or add extra ingredients… you never know what could happen with a cooking battle!

Landscape Painting in Oil and Acrylic Grades 3 - 5 | KT-312

Students will work with either oil or acrylic on canvas, gain an understanding of how to approach and interpret the complex world of landscape. Working from nature, drawings and photographs, learn how to use composition, perspective, tone, color, light and texture to gain desired effects.

Student-created films will be available on a password-protected website to share with friends and family. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. 

LEGO® Robotics | Grades 1-6

Build and program robots in this introductory Robotics class using LEGO! Learn basic programming skills, simple engineering concepts, the names of robot components, and build a complete variety of projects using tilt, motion, and other sensors. This is a great way to prepare young Robotics enthusiasts for future classes. Projects include chirping birds, an alligator, a robot rover, a monkey that plays the drums, soccer-bot, programmable car, and more. (Projects based on age and ability level). Students will work on tablets. Students will build, program, and create robots all week! All students will take home a non LEGO robot as part of the class.

Logo Character Designs with Illustrator Grades 9 - 12 | KT-014

Do you know how to make vector-based artwork? Learn how to draw shapes and use typography to make unique designs in Adobe Illustrator. We start by learning the fundamentals of how vector shapes work and how to use the basic tools. As we progress, learn how to add typography, work with overlapping layers, and use masks. For any graphic project, we’ll start with an initial sketch and then create the idea with the computer using Adobe Illustrator. Learn to take your ideas and turn them into eye-popping digital art. Take to the skies with mini drones, quadcopters, and more! This camp is the perfect introduction to the world of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In this camp, safety is a priority as students learn to fly in first-person view (FPV), exploring the real-world applications of drones. Putting critical thinking to the test, campers will brainstorm ways drones could be used for good, sketching out their ideas for new and innovative drones and drone uses. Campers will also experiment with paper planes, flying gadgets, rockets, gyroscopes, physics toys, balloon cars, and much more. All students will take home their own mini-drone.

Coding, robotics, art, STEAM, and computer science will come alive with tiny, programmable mini-robots. Learn to use the Sphero mini app to drive in different modes, program with Javascript, or as a controller to play games. Our instruction will help you to really have fun and learn with your robot. Use toothbrush motor and vibration technology to build and take home your own “Bristlebot! and Brushbot.”  Next, perform science experiments you can take home! Make your own working telescope as you learn about the optics of light. Construct an electro-magnet and a working electric motor, make ultra-violet bead bracelets, and much more!  (For 3rd-5th grade students)

Mock Trial | Grades 6-8

Mock Trial Grades 6 – 8 runs from 9AM – 4PM in Week 2 and again in Week 6 from 9AM – 4PM

Guilty or innocent? In this class, students will learn the elements of public speaking, principles of the court system, and how to debate the pro and con side of an issue. Students will serve as either a member of the prosecution, the defense, a witness, or a judge. At the end of the class a jury of your peers will deliberate and decide the fate of the accused. 

Model United Nations | Grades 6-8

Discover global issues, world diplomacy, and parliamentary procedure through role-playing. You become the delegate of a Model United Nations (UN) to explore ways of solving international crises using critical thinking skills, research, and debate. Gain a global vision of our world by taking part in this simulated UN experience. 

Model United Nations | Grades 6-9

Become one of the 400,000 students around the world in Model United Nations! Assume the role of an ambassador and represent your country to solve current world issues. Throughout the week students will research a world problem, develop solutions, and negotiate consensus with their peers. This program teaches teens and tweens core skills such as research, writing, public speaking, problem-solving, and conflict resolution. Model UN alumni have gone on to become Supreme Court justices, world leaders, lawyers, and business professionals. No prior experience is needed. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

We'll discuss using smart phones and more-dedicated digital cameras when making an image. Learn about settings and apps to make artistic images, get the best exposure, and practice special effects. In this course budding writers explore the art of crafting compelling nonfiction memoirs. Beginner's II picks up where Beginner's I leaves off and is the next step to taking intermediate Guitar.  Further honing the skills learned in Beginner's I and introducing concepts and skills that will be covered in intermediate.  Students must have  their own guitars. Painting on Silk Age 10-14

Students will learn how to create designs and how to bring those designs to life on silk and fabric.  At the end of the course, students will have at least two original scarfs they can create for themselves or others. This class is taught virtually with a live instructor.

Camera phones and digital photography are truly part of our daily lives. This course  teaches the fundamentals for making better digital images. Learn the basics of  composition and personal expression using creative settings with photo apps and more.  Work with your phone camera or a digital camera to learn to make good photographs— seeing the subject, framing the shot, portrait photography, stopping motion or blurring  action using apertures and shutter speeds. Get more from a digital camera or learn  about advanced camera phone app. Using the campus to capture imagery, the class will  focus on specific challenges, group discussions, and make prints of some of the images  we capture. A camera phone or a digital camera is required for this class.

Pies and Cakes Grades 3 - 5

Pies and Cakes Grades 3 – 5 runs from 9AM – 12PM

This course is designed to educate young students in the art of baking and pastry. Students will learn the basic mixing, shaping, and baking for pies and cakes. Following easy instruction students will bake in a well-equipped kitchen. Basic apple and blueberry pies as well as chocolate ganache mousse cake will be made by the students, to name a few.

Pinatas 1,2,3 | Grades 2-6

A traditional art in Spanish culture is piñata making. This messy and long process craft is also fun and creative. This class will teach you the step-by-step process. During the week you will create simple to more complex piñatas. Once finished, projects are taken home for you to enjoy! Note: bring a smock or old t-shirt to use during class. 

Pitch Perfect: Delivering Powerful Presentations | Grades 5-9

This empowering course focuses on honing the art of public speaking and crafting impactful speeches. Through interactive exercises, students learn the principles of effective communication, including body language, vocal modulation, and persuasive speech writing. With practical opportunities to deliver speeches and receive constructive feedback, participants develop confidence and essential skills to express their ideas eloquently and persuasively in various public settings. 

Playwriting Workshop

This in-person course will be held in Ender Hall at Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus NJ 07652

Tap into your inner artist, learn the art of play writing, and create an original 5-10 minute play.  Learn about the elements of a plot and practice implementing repetition, exposition, subtext and logic as you imagine your words coming to life on a stage! Format your theatre script and make meaningful revisions based on criteria and feedback. Students will think critically as they write about relevant issues or topics for their age and life experiences. (For 6th-10th grade students)

Poetry Writing Workshop Grades 8 - 12 | KT-607

This dynamic workshop invites budding poets to delve into the enchanting world of verse. Through exploration of various poetic forms, techniques, and themes, students refine their poetic voice and experiment with expressive language. By analyzing renowned works and engaging in writing exercises, participants craft their own evocative poetry, fostering a deeper appreciation for the art while honing their skills as accomplished poets. 

Portrait Painting | Grades 1-4

This in-person course will be held in Ender Hall at Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus NJ 07652

In this class, students will bring pictures of their family, friends, and pets, and paint them in acrylic or oil paint.  You will investigate the foundational elements of portrait painting:  proportion, skin colors, facial expressions, etc., producing complex and professional portraits of your loved ones. (For 3rd-5th grade students)

POUND! A Drum & Fitness Class Grades 3 - 6

Pound! A Drum and Fitness Class Grades 3 – 6

Get ready to MOVE, ROCK, PLAY, and MAKE NOISE! What does a Generation POUND class look and feel like? This class combines movement and music to improve focus, coordination, physical fitness and teamwork skills. By combining exercise and interactive activities to help build confidence, you will learn new ways to explore movement, embrace your creativity and ROCK OUT! Want a sneak peak? Here’s a video! Please have a yoga mat, sneakers, comfortable clothing, a snack, and plenty of water!

Introduction to the use of PowerPoint. Upon completion, participates will be able to create/save a presentation, rearrange/delete/insert slides, format/modify  text, format/insert photographs, add/modify shapes, use text in objects, WordArt, picture, clip art, tables, charts, diagrams, templates, themes, transitions, timing, speaker notes, slide  show, proofing/running/printing presentations.

Praxis Core Acad Skills

This workshop will prepare you for the Praxis Core Academic Skills test, which is a requirement in order to earn your Certificate of Eligibility to teach from the Department of Education. The workshop covers 12 hours of math, 3 hours of reading and 3 hours of writing.

Scene Study Ages 13-16

This class is about fun!  Our experienced Garage Theatre Group teachers use theatre games and physical exercises to teach kids the basics of improvisation.  Young students are encouraged to use their imaginations as you learn to create characters, build scenes and invent whole worlds without ever using a costume, prop or set piece.  You will also practice teamwork and listening skills to help you work as an ensemble and learn the discipline of performance. This class is taught virtually with a live instructor.

In this class you will learn how to repurpose materials into art. Addressing the importance of reusing items you would normally throw away and turn them into cool artwork. Explore 2D and 3D dimensional techniques by learning hands-on building. Create art out of miscellaneous objects to transform trash to treasure. Brainstorm ideas, problem solving skills, sketch plans, create and design characters, and more.

This course has been developed to provide youngsters a culinary experience with basic knowledge and the necessary skills to produce quality simple desserts. With guidance from a professional chef, students will be creating simple desserts such as a fruit tart, panna cotta with fresh berries, chocolate French pudding with almond biscotti, to name a few.

This course will be dedicated to the skills building of appetizer and tapas style cuisine. With fresh ingredients like high quality meats and professional guidance you will be able to produce industry-level cuisine in class!  Focusing on hors d'oeuvres, small bites, tapas, and apps you’ll get an insight into these customer favorites. Next, we’ll head to the Southwest to explore Tex Mex and Latin Cuisine. Prepare dishes such as arroz con pollo and street tacos!  We’ll learn to make authentic dips, including pico de gallo and guacamole.

This course moves beyond the basics of songwriting to touch on such subjects as writing a good book, voice leading, recording, marketing and more. 

Spanish Celebration! | Grades 1-6

Learning another language can be an exciting experience. This course takes learning Spanish to another level. While we work on basic vocabulary, we also explore other areas of language like geography, culture and cuisine! Every day we will practice vocabulary through engaging games, learn cultural facts and make simple yet fun crafts like papier-mâche maracas and papel picado banners. Celebrations need food and every day we will make a tasty Spanish treat including flan and tostones! Your knowledge of Spanish will also grow in the knowledge of geography with our daily challenges and skits. We will culminate our week of learning with a Spanish FIESTA! (in class made piñata included). Please note some treats may require the use of ingredients that may have been processed in a facility that handles peanuts and tree nuts. 

Spanish Multicultural Experience Grades 7 - 11 | KT-628

Students will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Spanish culture through interactive projects based on the highly awarded cultural film Encanto. You will know, develop, and use communication skills to understand and express yourself in Spanish. You will learn the skills necessary to achieve proper communicative interaction in the Spanish language, taking into account cultural, social, and diversity aspects.

Practice Spanish through role play and emerge yourself in the character using props. Sing along to the many catchy songs that aim to help you practice and learn Spanish vocabulary. Have fun using conductive and insulating play dough to learn about the basics of electric circuits!  With Squishy circuits, you will get to use unique electronic components to solve problems, engineer solutions and inspire your creativity and thinking.  Build creative gadgets with buzzers, motors, LEDs – plus Little-Bits, SnapCircuits, and more! Then gear up for some amazing science fun and build, tinker, and create amazing gadgets! What happens when gears are connected? Do they rotate together, at the same speed, or in the same direction? Does it even matter how they touch each other? Discover these answers, and more, with this class. Projects include making and taking home a motorized gear and pulley driven car, a hydraulic claw-project, and more! 

Star Wars and Lego Pirates | Grades 5-8

Have you ever wondered how they make those incredible rides you see at the amusement park? You will design and build working models of your favorite rides using K’NEX construction systems. Projects will include a motorized swing, ferris wheel, roller coasters, and others.  Now that you’ve applied some laws of physics have fun building LEGO vehicles and other artifacts related to Pirates and the Star Wars collections!  (For 6th-8th grade students)

Join us this summer as we explore all the different areas of science! Don't look now … or well … actually do look, as we use our eyes in Optical Illusions and create your own periscope. Just when they thought they've had all of the awesome science they can handle, it’s time for Lights … Color … ACTION!! as we create indoor fireworks and lighten things up with fantastic lights and color displays, and as a grand finale to this amazing program the kids will learn all about heat and get to make their own cotton candy to eat!

You will be taught different reading strategies throughout the week to help you become a better reader and to avoid the “summer slide.”

Super Science Make & Take - Toys that Teach (Grades 1-4)

Super Science Make & Take runs from 1PM – 4PM

Would you like to design and build a homemade musical instrument?  How about making your own working telescope as you learn about the optics of light?  Or, perhaps, constructing an adjustable, ball-launching catapult that changes the trajectory of a flinging projectile?!  In this workshop, you’ll construct a wide variety of inventive projects and toys that are designed to teach about science concepts.  From assembling an electro-magnet and a working electric motor to making ultra-violet bead bracelets, fun is what this workshop is all about!

Super Science STEAM Challenges - Online Fun!

In this age-appropriate engineering workshop, you will have fun integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics by building and designing a wide range of gadgets, inventive machines, towers, crazy contraptions, and more. Be part of: The Great Tower Challenge, The Wooden Coaster Challenge, The Structural Engineering Challenge, The Marble Challenge, The Bucket Challenge, and a host of other fun contests designed to bring out the engineer in you!  Students will work with ZomeTool, Keva, BA-2.0, Lego, K’NEX, Gravitrax, and a variety of projects that use every-day materials. Calling all agents! This camp is part forensics and part "spy science". Step into the shoes of a detective-uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Students will create, collect, and analyze evidence and discover what skills are necessary as a crime scene lab technician!

Summer Bulldogs will learn the art of making various types of tarts and pies in this culinary workshop.  Students will learn the art and science behind combining specific recipe ingredients to make delicious desserts from scratch! They will practice some math and engineering, as they mix and  measure, assemble and create their pastries. (Kitchen health and safety practices will be introduced during the first class and practiced throughout.) (For 6th-8th grade students)

Activities include simulated blood typing, making Mr. Skeleton, making a map of the human tongue, a model heart, brain, and more.  Next, have fun using conductive and insulating play dough to learn about the basics of  electric circuits!  Use these ‘Squishy circuits’ to solve problems, engineer solutions and inspire your creativity and thinking.  We’ll build creative gadgets with buzzers, motors, LEDs, and more! Take home a unique circuit alarm designed & built (by you!) in class. (For 3rd-5th grade students)

Underground Explorers Grades 1 - 6

Underground Explorers Grades 1 – 6 runs from 9AM – 12PM

Kids learn about archaeology and the techniques scientists use to excavate long lost cities! They discover ancient civilizations and the tools and artifacts they used in everyday life! They also study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits, and fossils to understand what they can tell us about history! What's more, each class includes a make and take-home project, like a fossil reproduction, an amber time capsule, and coins from around the world!

At the end of the week, take home your first cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed on a website or a mobile device. Students do not need a mobile device to take the class, but to use the VR headset at home a camper will need access to an Android or Apple mobile device. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. An additional $19 lab fee for the VR headset has been added to the cost for the class.

Vocal Workshop Grades 10 - 12

Vocal Workshop Grades 10 – 12 runs from 1PM to 4PM

This workshop is designed for a moderately experienced singer who wants to learn more about how to control and improve their voice.  You will also learn how to and/or practice the skill of sight-singing. Direction of the workshop will be based on experience and ability. Sheet music will be provided based on interest (i.e. Broadway, pop, choral, opera, etc.)

Volleyball (Grades 5 - 8)

Volleyball runs from 1 PM – 4 PM

This class is for students who already know how to play volleyball. We will be brushing up on skills like bumping, setting, spiking and serving for the upcoming volleyball season. Get ready for the fall and for tryouts! Please wear sneakers and comfortable clothing. Bring a snack and plenty of water! OPTIONAL: If you would like to get yourself a set of volleyball knee pads, it would be beneficial; but it is not required.

This camp is extremely electric!! Learn all about electricity, its properties and how we use it every day!! Make indoor lighting as you conduct Hair-Raising experiments and explore the amazing Tesla Coil! It promises to be shocking!!!! Jump in and investigate inertia, gravity, and centripetal force. Let's join Bernoulli and Newton as we look into their work in aerodynamics and the properties of air!!! We will play Mad Science Air Hockey, Generate Vortex generators, and defy gravity as we levitate a ping pong ball!! Don't Crack as we become Under Pressure!!

Website Design for Beginners | KT-145

Grades 9 – 12 runs from 9AM – 12PM; Grades 6 – 8 runs from 1PM – 4PM

Learn to make your own personal web page for yourself, a special group or club. Get a basic understanding of the WordPress program. Build the web page with free templates, the Gutenberg block editor, Google fonts, awesome icons and more. Work in teams or on your own—share elements and learn some basic customizations. Class projects focus on creating logo headers, page sections, headings, subheads, feature copy, sidebars, footing copy and more. This class will focus on layout and design for creating websites. We will NOT cover the HTML or CSS code writing. Basic computer and mouse skills are required.

Experiment with visual effects as you learn the dynamics of camera angles, editing, graphic layering, and sound effects.
