The 90-hour Building Inspector R.C.S (Residential and Commercial Structure) course provides students with the fundamental knowledge and educational experience required by the state for licensure under this title. Building inspectors typically review plans to ensure they meet building codes, local ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications. They also monitor construction sites periodically to ensure overall compliance. This course covers topics such as structural design, fire protection systems, systems design, and installation practices, mechanical systems, general requirements of electrical and plumbing sub-codes, and plan review and field inspection. Textbooks, materials, ID card and exam fees are not included, course texts are located in the college library for student use.
Prerequisites: Knowledge of Building Codes and Experience in the Field

This course includes an in-person field trip mandated by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The specific site will be determined by the instructor.
