Welcome to K12 at Bergen

Bergen Community College’s K12 Programs provide high-quality educational and enrichment experiences for students in grades one through twelve. To ensure a safe, supportive, and smooth experience for all families, this page outlines the policies, requirements, procedures, and expectations that apply to every K12 program:

These policies are designed to support student safety, instructional quality, and operational consistency across all program locations.

Student Code of Conduct

Bergen Community College is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all participants. All students must follow the K12 Student Code of Conduct.

Expected Behaviors

  • Treat peers, instructors, and staff with respect.
  • Use polite and appropriate language.
  • Participate responsibly in classroom activities.
  • Follow all directions from instructors and staff.
  • Remain in designated program spaces at all times.

Prohibited Behaviors

  • Bullying or harassment of any kind.
  • Disruptive or unsafe behavior.
  • Use of inappropriate language.
  • Damage to College property or materials.
  • Leaving the classroom or campus areas without permission.

Failure to follow the Code of Conduct may result in removal from the program without refund.


Refund Policy

The College reserves the right to modify or cancel courses, change instructors, and adjust schedules as needed.

Refund Request Requirements

  • A full refund is issued only when the withdrawal request is received by email at least five business days before the course start date.
  • All refund requests must be sent to: [email protected]
  • Please allow four to six weeks for processing.

Refunds Are Not Issued For:

  • Requests submitted fewer than five business days before a program begins.
  • Failure to attend a program.
  • Failure to submit required forms, including Health and Safety forms or approval forms.
  • Transfer credit courses (Credit Recovery or New Work for Credit).

Course Cancellation by the College

If the College cancels a course due to low enrollment, a refund or tuition credit is issued.


Instructor Screening and Safety Protocols

Student safety is our highest priority. All instructors and staff must complete:

  • Background checks
  • Employment authorization checks
  • Reference verification
  • Training in emergency procedures
  • Campus safety and child supervision training

Program areas are monitored regularly to ensure safety compliance.


Health and Safety Requirements

All students must have a completed Health and Safety Questionnaire on file before the program begins.
This documentation is required for participation in every K12 program.

Important Requirements:

  • The questionnaire is emailed automatically after registration.
  • One questionnaire is required for each child.
  • The form must be submitted at least one week prior to the program start date.
  • Failure to submit results in removal from the class without refund.

Students may not attend or participate in the program until their form is approved.


IEP and 504 Disclosure for Student Support

To support students with individualized needs, families may submit:

  • An Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • A 504 Accommodation Plan

This documentation allows staff to determine whether reasonable support can be provided within the program environment.

Submission Instructions

Submit a copy of the IEP or 504 Plan to:

Preferably submitted with the Health and Safety Questionnaire, but no later than one week before the course begins.

Failure to provide documentation in advance may limit our ability to provide the necessary support.


Approval Forms: High School Credit Courses

Students registering for New Work for Credit or Credit Recovery courses must submit a school approval form.

Required For:

  • New Work for Credit
  • Credit Recovery

Approval ensures the student’s high school will accept the course for credit.

Approved Documentation May Include:

  • Bergen’s official Summer High School Approval Form, or
  • A signed form or letter from the student’s school or district administrator.

If a student will not be taking the course for credit, parents must email the same address with written confirmation.


Registration Policies

Registration opens on the following schedule:

  • February First – Summer Learning Academy
  • February First – Summer High School Program
  • Seasonally Assigned Dates – After School Enrichment

Registration Closes

Registration closes on the Thursday before the program start date for all K12 programs.

Required to Complete Registration

  • Online enrollment
  • Health and Safety Questionnaire
  • Approval forms (if required)
  • Updated parent and emergency contact information

Registration is not considered complete until all required forms are submitted and approved.


Program Adjustments and Cancellations

Program Adjustments

Bergen Community College may adjust program offerings or schedules to ensure safety, enrollment minimums, or instructor availability.

College Cancellation

If the College cancels a course due to low enrollment, tuition is refunded or tuition credit is applied.

Weather-Related Closures

In the event of campus closure or delayed opening:

  • Notifications will be sent by email.
  • Updates will be posted on the College website.
  • Make-up classes may be offered when possible but are not guaranteed.
