General Questions
What age groups do the programs serve?
K12 at Bergen serves students entering grades one through twelve.
Each course lists the appropriate grade range to help families select the right option for their child.
What are the main benefits of enrolling?

Do families need prior experience with Bergen Community College?
No. First-time families are welcome and guided through each step of the process.
Do programs fill up quickly?
Yes. Many courses reach capacity early, especially during the summer.
We strongly encourage registering as soon as enrollment opens.
Program Costs and Financial Information
What do the programs cost?
Tuition varies depending on:
- Program type
- Course length
- Full-day or half-day format (Summer Learning Academy)
- New Work for Credit versus Credit Recovery (Summer High School)
Families should review each program’s individual webpage for current tuition details.
Is financial aid available?
At this time, financial aid is not available for K12 programs.
Are payment plans available?
No. All payments must be made in full at the time of registration.
Lunch, Food, and Allergies
Is lunch provided?
No.
Families must send students with a nut-free lunch that does not require:
- Refrigeration
- Heating
- Freezing
What happens if my child finishes lunch early?
Students participate in staff-supervised activities such as:
- Outdoor play (weather permitting)
- Indoor games
- Quiet reading or drawing
- Group activities
Does Bergen have a nut-free policy?
Yes. All lunches and snacks brought from home must be nut-free for the safety of all students.
Dismissal and Pick-Up Procedures
What if someone other than a parent will pick up my child?
Families must email written permission to:

Include:
- Child’s full name
- Name of authorized adult
- Date(s) of pick-up
- Parent’s phone number for verification
Can my high school student sign themselves out?
Yes.
High school students may sign themselves in and out only if a parent provides written permission via email.
After School Enrichment Program
What classes are offered?
Classes vary by season and may include:
- STEM
- Visual arts
- Drama and performance
- Music
- Leadership and business
- Cultural learning
Is transportation provided?
No.
Families must arrange drop-off and pick-up.
Where are classes held?
Classes are held at designated host schools and community locations.
Additional sites, including Hackensack, return in Fall 2025.
Summer Learning Academy
What grades does the Summer Learning Academy serve?
Students in grades one through twelve (rising grade level for September enrollment).
What is the weekly schedule?
- Full-day: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Half-day morning: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Half-day afternoon: 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Is before-care or after-care offered?
Yes.
Families may add before-care or after-care when registering.
How many weeks can we enroll?
Families may register:
- For one week
- For multiple weeks
- For the full six-week series
Does my child need to bring lunch?
Yes. Lunch is not provided.
All lunches must be nut-free.
Summer High School Program
What types of classes are offered?
Two pathways:
- New Work for Credit
- Credit Recovery
What is the difference between the two?
New Work for Credit
Students take a course for the first time to earn high school credit.
Credit Recovery
Students retake a course to recover credit for graduation.
Does my child need approval from their high school?
Yes.
All credit-bearing courses require prior approval from the student’s school or district.
Approval may come from:
- Bergen’s official approval form, or
- A district-generated approval form
Where do we send approval forms?

What if my child will not take a course for credit?
Parents must email written confirmation stating:
- The student’s name
- That the course is being taken for learning only, not for credit
What are the program dates and times?
- July One through July Thirty-One
- No Friday classes
- Full-day schedule for New Work for Credit
- Morning or afternoon schedule for Credit Recovery
What if my child needs to miss class?
If your child expects to miss more than two days, please contact program staff before registering.
Summer courses are accelerated and attendance is mandatory for credit.
Registration Questions
How do I register?
Registration is completed online through our enrollment portal.
Do I need an account?
Yes.
Each child must have:
- Their own individual account
- Their own completed Health and Safety Questionnaire
What if I already have an account?
Log in using your existing credentials to access:
- Enrollments
- Messages
- Account updates
- Uploaded documents
When does registration open?
- February First for Summer Learning Academy
- February First for Summer High School
- Various seasonal dates for After School Enrichment
When does registration close?
Registration closes on the Thursday before the course start date.
Required Forms
What forms are required?
All students must submit:
- Health and Safety Questionnaire
- One per child
- Must be submitted at least one week before the program begins
- IEP or 504 Plan (optional but encouraged for support)
- Approval Form (required for high school credit courses only)
What happens if forms are not submitted?
The child will be removed from the program without refund.
Forms are required for safety and compliance.
Attendance and Participation
Is attendance mandatory?
Yes.
Especially for:
- Credit Recovery
- New Work for Credit
Missing more than two days may prevent successful completion.
What if my child is sick?
Please keep your child home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness.
Notify the program by email.
