Welcome to the Summer High School Program
The Summer High School Program at Bergen Community College provides structured academic support for students entering grades nine through twelve. Our goal is to help students stay on track, get ahead, or recover credits in a focused, supportive environment taught by qualified New Jersey teachers.
This four-week program offers two pathways:
- New Work for Credit: Students take a course for the first time to earn credit toward high school graduation.
- Credit Recovery: Students retake a course previously attempted to improve mastery and recover required credit.
Our curriculum aligns with New Jersey educational standards, and our classes are designed to support student success, confidence, and growth.
Program Schedule and Structure
Program Dates
July One through July Thirty-One, Two Thousand Twenty-Five
There are no classes on Fridays.
Daily Schedule
New Work for Credit Courses:
- 8:00 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. (full day, Monday through Thursday)
Credit Recovery Courses:
- Morning Session: 8:00 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.
Credit recovery programs are for students who have taken the course before and need another try at passing.
Program Options
New Work for Credit
These courses allow students to take new subjects in order to advance their academic progress.
Examples include (but are not limited to):
- Algebra
- Geometry
- English Language Arts
- Laboratory Sciences
- World History or United States History
- World Languages
Students earn high school credit upon successful completion and approval by their home district.
Credit Recovery
These courses are designed for students who need to retake a failed or incomplete course.
Students work with certified teachers to:
- Reinforce core content
- Address gaps in understanding
- Strengthen academic foundation
- Improve course performance
Credit Recovery courses are fast-paced, condensed, and require consistent attendance.
Registration Opens February 1, 2026
Families are encouraged to register early, as classes fill quickly and some subjects have limited availability.
How to Register
The Summer High School Program has specific requirements because many students enroll for the purpose of earning official high school credit. Please follow all steps carefully.
Step One: Explore Course Options
Review the available courses under each pathway:
- New Work for Credit
- Credit Recovery
Course descriptions and schedules are posted on the program pages.
Step Two: Create a Student Account
Each high school student must have an individual account.
Parents may assist with account creation but should ensure the information belongs to the student.
Step Three: Obtain Required Approval (Credit Courses Only)
Students enrolling in New Work for Credit or Credit Recovery must submit one of the following:
- The official Summer High School Approval Form (download available on website), or
- An equivalent approval letter or form provided by the student’s high school or district administrator.

If the student is enrolling not for credit (learning purposes only):
Parents must email the program with the student’s name and state clearly that the course is not intended for high school credit.
Step Four: Register for Courses
After approval is submitted (if applicable), families may select their preferred class and click Register Now to enroll.
Step Five: Complete the Required Health and Safety Questionnaire
After registration, families will receive a confirmation email.
Registration is not complete until the Health and Safety Questionnaire is submitted.
One questionnaire is required per student, and it must be received:
- At least one week before classes begin
- Failure to submit will result in cancellation without refund
Step Six: Registration Complete
Once the questionnaire is received and processed, the student is fully enrolled.
Attendance Expectations
Summer High School courses move quickly due to the condensed schedule.
Attendance is essential.
- Students who expect to miss more than two class days should contact program staff before registering.
- Extended absences may affect the student’s ability to pass or earn credit.

Parents can manage their child’s enrollments and stay informed through the Student Portal.

Frequently Asked Considerations
Is lunch provided for full-day students?
No.
Students in full-day courses must bring a packed, nut-free lunch that does not require refrigeration.
Do I need transportation?
Families must arrange transportation for drop-off and pick-up.
The program does not provide transportation services.
Will classes appear on my child’s high school transcript?
Yes, if:
- The course is taken for credit
- Approval is provided by the student’s high school
- The student successfully completes all course requirements Final transcripts are sent directly to the home district.
