This 460-hour course provides students with the theoretical and practical skills to decontaminate, sterilize, prepare, assemble, and dispense surgical and procedural instruments. Upon completing the 60-hour theory portion, students will continue their studies by working in the clinical setting for a required 400-hour clinical (non-paid) internship. You will be placed in a “hands-on” workplace experience (400 hours) at a local medical center and/or surgical center. Three internship shifts are available: 7:00am to 3:00pm, 3:00pm to 11:00pm and 11:00pm to 7:00am. The internship  is required to be eligible to sit for the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) examination administered by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM).

Day sessions meet weekly in person on Tuesdays from 9 am to 3 pm. Evening sessions are hybrid. Classes meet on Mondays in person and Fridays online from 5 pm to 8:30 pm. Books are not included in the tuition.

This 184-hour comprehensive course will provide instruction for entry-level employment as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) within the healthcare industry. This course focuses on jobs in Health Care facilities (hospitals or long-term care), direct order pharmacies, and pharmaceutical companies. Retail pharmacy employment is also an option for graduates of this program.

Bergen Community College is approved as a PTCB-Recognized Education/Training Program. Students who complete the program (or are within 60 days of completing) are eligible to apply to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) to earn their PTCB CPhT credential.

Bergen Community College’s CADC approved program will teach the competencies to counsel individuals and groups who are affected by addiction, and provide support throughout the recovery process. Through a series of courses over 5 domains, you will be prepared to sit for the certification exam to be taken upon meeting all state requirements. Completing this program successfully can lead to a certification with the Addiction Professionals Certification Board. A supervised externship of 3,000 hours is part of the Addiction Professionals Certification Board’s certification requirement.

In today’s health care environment, nursing assistants are responsible for caring for clients who are receiving advanced care in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, sub-acute care facilities, assisted living facilities, and private residences. This 90-hour course will combine theory and laboratory skills to provide proficiency and confidence when caring for clients who have complex care needs. Students will practice advanced skills in the laboratory and use simulation/skills manikins to obtain competence and confidence in providing acute care. American Heart Association, Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS/CPR) certification is included in this program. The use of a scrub uniform is highly recommended for this course and can be purchased in any color for this class. Participants in the BCC HH 772 Certified Nursing Assistant program are encouraged to utilize the BCC scrub set uniform issued for this course. Due to the number and nature of skills presented in this program, attendance is required at all sessions. Books are not included in the tuition.
Prerequisites: High School Diploma/GED

This 80-hour course is available in daytime and evening sessions. The daytime course runs from 10am to 3pm, Monday through Thursday for four weeks. The evening course meets two nights per week for two months from 5pm to 10pm.

This course introduces the methods and techniques of phlebotomy by providing skills necessary to perform venipuncture, and capillary (finger) sticks for drawing and processing blood samples within a health care facility or laboratory setting. The course includes a review of anatomy and physiology of the hematopoietic system and common blood diseases, associated medical terminology; bloodborne pathogen education; laboratory clinical practice skills. Books are not included in the tuition.

This 30-hour comprehensive course will assist healthcare workers in acquiring essential skills for the identification of primary cardiac arrhythmias. This program promotes a step-by-step method of rhythm strip analysis and incorporates “hands-on” skills practice sessions. The instructor will assess competency by written examination and with the use of simulation. Books are not included in the tuition.

Prerequisite: Must have EKG Certification

This 40-hour course is available in person for daytime and evening sessions. The daytime class runs from 10am to 3pm from Monday to Thursday. The evening meets two nights per week for one month from 5pm to 10pm.

This course prepares students to enhance job skills and performance in hospitals, cardiology offices, cardiac rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and continued care facilities. Proper 12 lead ECG electrode placements, performance, troubleshooting technical problems, and application of a 24-hour Holter Monitor will be practiced. Recognition of normal and abnormal tracings, medical terminology, and medical abbreviations applicable to ECGs will be discussed. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified EKG/MonitorTechnician (CET) examination. Books are not included in the tuition.

This 40-hour course is designed to provide a foundation for all health professional programs. Students will learn the universal language of medicine by identifying root words, prefixes, and suffixes commonly used in the healthcare industry. Proper use of medical terms provides effective communication related to client care in the workplace. Terms, abbreviations, anatomy and physiology, therapeutic procedures, and pharmacology terms will be presented in detail during this course. Books are not included in the tuition.

This 200-hour program introduces the student to health insurance and reimbursement. In this course, the student will become familiar with standard medical billing practices, the health insurance industry, legal and regulatory issues, and differences in reimbursement methodologies. The student will learn principles of medical billing related to proper claim form preparation, submission, and payment processing, and the follow-up process. Books are not included in the tuition.

Must have a valid CNA license to enroll in this program.

This 210-hour program provides them with the skills necessary to work in acute care facilities (hospitals), urgent care centers, dialysis units, and ambulatory care settings. Coursework includes Medical Terminology, HIPAA regulations EKG and Phlebotomy skills, advanced patient care skills with laboratory, the emergency response including American Heart Association Adult First Aid, and Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification. All participants will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcare Association (NHA) examination for Patient Care Technician/Associate after completion of BOTH required modules for the Patient Care Technician program. Books are not included in the tuition.

This classroom course, led by an American Heart Association certified Instructor or Facilitator, teaches employees how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials.

This course is designed to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for bloodborne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction. It is intended for anyone with a reasonable chance of coming into contact with bloodborne pathogens, which would include all practicing health care providers.

This 80-hour course provides technician-focused instruction and training for the successful production of non-sterile and sterile preparations, a significant responsibility of the pharmacy technician in hospitals, long-term care, and other healthcare facilities. This course includes the study of sterile products, hand washing techniques, pharmaceutical calculations, references, safety techniques, aseptic techniques in parenteral compounding, proper use of equipment, preparation of sanitary products, and safe handling of antineoplastic drugs. This critical work requires the mastery of aseptic technique: the procedures that avoid introducing pathogens into sterile products, ensure patient safety, and maintain product consistency. Books are not included in the tuition.

This ESL course is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare industry, and whose first language is other than English. ESL for Healthcare provides foundational healthcare concepts as students learn the critical vocabulary to use when in the healthcare setting with patients, physicians, and fellow workers. Language skills will be practiced in realistic ways to simulate English as used in the workplace. Books are not included in the tuition.

Prerequisite: Placement Test, ESL III, or Advanced II

This program is a course requiring a valid or pending nursing license (LPN or RN), including two sessions of five hours each. The theory portion will be scheduled live in the IV therapy/Phlebotomy lab, and a clinical skills session will follow. Nurses will learn the skills required to perform peripheral IV therapy and Phlebotomy skills according to the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) guidelines.

Prerequisite: Pending or Current RN or LPN License

This five-hour course follows the guidelines of the American Heart Association (AHA) for healthcare providers, professional rescuer level certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). The course includes Adult, Infant, and Child CPR skills and use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED); Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) clearance skills competencies.

This 90-hour lecture, laboratory, and the clinical program prepares the student to care for residents in long term care, sub-acute rehabilitation facilities, and some hospitals. This course is approved by the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and complies with regulations and standards of the Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP). The program requires 50 hours of lecture/laboratory and 40 hours of clinical rotation in a long term care facility (Clinical Rotations will start in the facility at 7:30 am). After successful completion of this course, the student is eligible to take the NJ Certified Nursing Assistant Examinations (skills test and computer written examination). Tuition includes textbooks, uniform vouchers, and all certification/testing fees.
